Simplicity November 1972

Simplicity November 1972

Let's roll back the calendar pages to November of 1972 and see what's happenin'!

Simplicity 5185/5308

November 1972 was all about knits!  They put the "pick-a-knit" guide right on the cover!  Now, personally.. my sewing machine hates sewing knits!  But all of these looks are really cute.. maybe I can talk my machine into it?  This jumper is particularly cute with it's interesting pocket detail.

Here are some similar patterns from team members:

1.)  Simplicity 8026 from Keepsakes Studio
2.)  Simplicity 9567 from Erika With A K
3.)  McCall's 2901 from Purple Plaid Penguin

Simplicity 5294 / 5286 / 5294

New for 72... how about a dolman sleeve?  The middle pattern looks very 80s to me.  The high-waisted skirt on the right is definitely in again!  The left side dress is classic... You can wear it now.

Here's some dolman sleeve patterns you can make today!

1.)  Vogue 1513 (By Heim) from So Vintage on Etsy
2.)  Beehive Knitting Book 810 from Redcurlz's
3.)  McCall's 9378 from Sissy's Patterns

Simplicity 5317 / 5297 / 5299 / 5296

Fancywork has Simplicity 5297 in stock!  It's so cute!

5317 in the short version looks a little .. German to me?  I love the high-waisted maxi-skirt look, too. And those granny gowns.. I'm actually not sure how I feel about granny gowns.

Here's some similar patterns:

1.)  Simplicity 9763 from We Are Vintage Sewing
2.)  Butterick 6450 from Fancywork
3.)  Simplicity 9519 from Redcurlz's
4.)  Vogue 8681 from Jeanie's Shop

Simplicity 5292 / 5324 / 5321 / 5293

This colorful layout is very cute!  These fun outfits are equally stylish today.  I could wear those dresses to the office tomorrow if I wanted to!   The asymmetrical buttons in 5321 look very 80s "New Wave" to me... what do you think?

Retroactive Future has Simplicity 5292 in stock.. from Simplicity's "Designer Fashion" line.

Atomic Regeneration and Knightcloth have Simplicity 5324 in stock... a classic basic dress!

Some more similar patterns:

Instructions on using Simplicity's Knit Picker appear ... it was a new idea, and some people were unfamiliar with the fairly new knit and stretch fabrics.  Anyone could have a comfortable wardrobe that looked attractive, too!

Bluetree Sewing Studio has the versatile 5306 in stock.. make a top and pants, or a maxi skirt.  Every bit as classy now as then!  The skirt could be great for anything from the office to a night at the theatre or special occasion.  And it's very easy!

More similar patterns:

1.)  Simplicity 5372 from Lady Diamond 46
2.)  McCall's 2866 from California Sunset
3.)  Simplicity 9606 from Sandritocat

Simplicity 5307 / 5325/5327 / 5185/5316 / 5316

Playful, colorful, and W-I-I-I-I-D-E pantlegs are the feature of this page!  I love the shoes but I'm not sure about the pants!  I think the yellow and green 5185/5316 is very cute though.  Love those ribbed stockings, too.  I'd wear it. :)

Bluetree Sewing Studio has the double-breasted jacket in stock.  I like the contrast trimming on the jacket.  Pretty neat and tidy .. very yacht-worthy.

Meanwhile, We Are Vintage Sewing has the mod pants (5327) and shirt (5325) in stock.  The pants are unisex!

Don't forget the kiddos!  Perfectly sweet outfits and toys for the younger set... every bit as cute as ever!

The matching boys and girls outfits  in 5336 would be perfect for twins.  And matching holiday pajamas are perfect for that Christmas card photo!
