  62. I learned to sew in the '70's and I have been sewing ever since. Last year I connected with a charity that goes to Guatemala to dig wells for the poorest of the poor. They also build schools and homes. I volunteered last year for 8 days and taught sewing to some teenaged girls and some older women. They learned to make aprons, slips and pencil skirts with an elastic waistband. I was so excited with the experience that I am leaving next week to go for 30 days! These patterns and fabrics would be great for the girls in Guatemala, the colours and styles would go over with a bang! My goal is to help them learn to sew well enough to set up their own company to sew school uniforms and clothes for the people on their mountain that would allow them independence from men and give them confidence and value, something they currently do not have.
Thank you for considering me.... for the girls.

  78. I remember the 70's well. There were bell bottom jeans, bandannas, granny squares, head bands, tie die everything, moccasins, ponchos, fringe - lots of fringe, vests, tin can rollers for that long straight hair, embroidered shirts, bell shaped sleeves, long beads, flowers in our hair, long skirts, and the music! I graduated in 1970 and got married in 1973. Budgets were tight back then and you had to "make do"; so many of our clothes and household things were, sewn, crocheted, or crafted out of necessity and for some of us the joy of doing it. A lot has happened since then, two children, a house, and a wonderful husband for 42 years. But sewing and crafting has followed me right into retirement and I still do it for the joy of it. I am hoping you pick because for some of us those truly were "the days"; so I now sew Retro patterns for myself, my daughter and myself. It seems many of the fashions of the 70's have come back! And I'm loving it! But just like the 70's retirement has made things tight and that means having to cut back even on sewing. So I am hoping you pick me so I can keep on sewing into a ripe old age!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I wore minis, maxis and lots of jeans in the early part of the 70s; mostly jeans at the end of the decade because I worked in a lab.I'd love to share the patterns and fabric with my daughter who sews too.
